This is my second collaboration with Tachibana. We set out to create something deeply rooted in Japanese culture and traditional Japanese tattoo symbolism. it’s one of those designs where if you know, you know.
After testing a few sample combinations, we couldn’t be happier with how it turned out. We’re stoked to finally share this with you, but please note, this is a limited drop. Once it’s gone, it’s gone.
The Hōju (宝珠) — often translated as the Wish-Fulfilling Jewel or Sacred Jewel — is a powerful and ancient symbol in Japanese and Buddhist tradition.
Meaning of 宝珠 (Hōju):
1. Wish-Fulfilling Jewel
In Buddhist belief, the Hōju grants wishes, purifies desires, and brings spiritual or material wealth. It’s said to manifest whatever the heart truly needs—symbolising the fulfillment of deep, selfless intentions.
2. Enlightenment and Wisdom
The jewel represents the ultimate truth or enlightenment, radiating wisdom and compassion that benefits all beings. It’s often shown emitting flames or light, symbolising its ability to illuminate ignorance.
3. Protection and Blessings
In Japanese culture, Hōju appears on statues of deities like Jizō or Kannon and on architecture (like atop pagodas or on temple rooftops), believed to protect, heal, and bless those nearby.
